What does Children’s Ministry at First Baptist look like?

Children’s Ministry looks like Spiritual Education!

Children’s Ministry looks like Sunday School every Sunday morning as the children are greeted in their classrooms by teams of teachers who not only know them and care about them as individuals, but have a lesson planned to teach them about God’s love and care for them as well. We use the Bible as our foundational literature and supplement it with quarterly material provided by the Southern Baptist Convention.

Children’s Ministry looks like Missions Education, Bible Memory and Games which we provide through our AWANA program for boys and girls age three through fifth grade. AWANA meets every Wednesday night from 6:00 until 7:15. It is a time of high energy and fun with the Bible at the very center of every activity.

Each of these educationally based programs is designed to help a child become interested in knowing and following Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. We believe that the Holy Spirit will draw them to Himself and that we must be faithful to teach them well. Because children initially learn on a very concrete level, our teaching is designed to meet them at the point of their need. We try to be very clear and specific as we teach them Bible Truths. Our desire is to be partners with parents and the homes in the spiritual nurturing and education of every child who participates in any part of our ministries. With the Apostle John, we say “we have no greater joy than to hear our children are walking in the truth.” (3 John 4)

Children’s Ministry looks like having fun!

Children’s Ministry is educational, but in the process it is fun! All of our planning and preparation is designed to engage children in their own learning process. We want them to want to be here and to like it when they come!

So, we do have fun along the way! We have Children’s Choirs as a part of the Church Music Program. (The graded choirs are for children PreKindergarten through Fifth Grade.)

We have a great Vacation Bible School and invite our friends to join us. (VBS 2014 will be June 9—13 from 9 until noon! There is a special program for the parents to see what we have learned on Friday, June 13 at 11:30 in the Worship Center.)

Those of us who have completed Third through Fifth Grades get to go to Kid’s Camp with us! (Kid’s Camp 2014 will be from July 24—27.)

We have lots of things at First Baptist Church that are just for children. There is a place for every child! If you haven’t visited First Baptist Church in Ponca City yet, plan to be here this coming Sunday! Your place is waiting for you!
